  1. Visit the beach.

    This village just outside of Chicago is home to a number of family-friendly attractions that will make for a great outing for kids. Fountain Square Park is just one of Elk Grove Village’s many green spaces, and is home to playground with a splash pad. The park’s lush open space also leaves plenty of room for a variety of activities.

The village is home to Rainbow Falls Waterpark, a year-round attraction famous for its tropical themes, exciting slides, and spacious pools. Rainbow Falls Waterpark is also a great venue for numerous events, such as birthday parties.

  3. Interact with the animals at Randall Oaks Zoo.

    Located in West Dundee, near the Northwest Suburbs, Randall Oaks Zoo is home to a wide variety of farm animals gentle enough to be petted by kids. Situated on top of a hill, the kids will love interacting with alpacas, goats, rabbits, horses, emus, chickens, pigs, and reptiles. The Randall Oaks Zoo is also home to an impressive collection of birds– Great Horned Owls, red-tailed hawks, and peacocks are just some of the species that have made the zoo home. Guests are free to feed and pet the animals, and pony rides can also be arranged with the management.

    But that’s not all. The Randall Oaks Zoo is a sprawling facility. There is a 10-hole disc golf course within the property, as well as three playgrounds, several picnic areas, volleyball courts, and shelters.

    Mount Prospect’s Adventure Playland is an indoor playground open to kids as young as 6 months and as old as 7 years. While you wait for your kids, take advantage of Adventure Playland’s fast Internet connection and their in-house cafe, which serves European-style fare and coffee.

    Chicago’s Northwest Suburbs is home to a wide selection of outdoor recreation. Introduce your kids to Mother Nature by taking them on a hike on one of the trails in the area. The Fox River Bike trail comes highly recommended– it runs over 40 miles and traverses through a number of interesting sites, such as historic railroads and bridges, towns, and the beautiful Fox River of Northern Illinois. There are many restaurants located adjacent to the trail, so food is not an issue, making it a great introductory hike for kids.
